Bookmatched or sequenced lumber adds beauty and consistency to furniture, instruments and many other projects. Bookmatches add dimension so that the finished piece has a unity and flow that stimulates the imagination with natural designs that are esthetically pleasing.
Woodworking Tip:
Experienced woodworkers know how important it is to buy lumber that is cut and dried to the thickness that it will be used. For instance, if your table-top is designed for 1” wood thickness, you should buy 5/4 lumber. Many have made the mistake of buying thicker lumber than is needed and re-sawing it to make their own bookmatched sets. You need to know that anytime that you re-saw lumber, you risk losing it. There are many factors you cannot control such as internal defects and differing moisture contents that can lead to warping.
